Zhou Brothers Music + Art Open House

2007-02-16

This performance at the February installment of Music + Art was meant to remind that giving the performers some choice in the composition process is a good thing, and may more effectively highlight any goals composers sought to undertake when composing in the first place. Free improvisation is a good starting point, and since there are those who scoff at the idea of improvisation as inward and limiting (and even John Cage said he used chance to free himself from his likes and dislikes) it is hoped that this concert pointed out that successes of many prominent abstract classical pieces in the last century were credited largely by the brute naturalist intelligence, the appeal and zest of a fine performer.
